The 10-20-30 Rule of Presentation
Dear PowerPoint User, Have you been applying the powerful techniques that we have shared? Are you experiencing more effective communication in your presentations? Today, I am going to share with you some lessons I have gleamed from a YouTube video on Guy Kawasaki. He is the genius who propelled Mac computers from an unknown company to the giant that it is today. In this 2-minute video, he shares and jokes about concepts that might be of value to you. It is called the 10-20-30 rule of presentation. (Please note that this principle should be taken with a pinch of salt)
“10” stands for the number of slides that a presentation should have. “20” stands for the duration (in minutes) any presentation should not exceed. “30” stands for the minimum font size you should use for your presentations. Click here to view video. Conclusion We may not agree to all that he shares. However, it does identify a very common problem that presenters often overlook - the area of managing font sizes. Like what I always tell my workshop participants; if it’s to be read, then it needs to be seen. Otherwise don’t irritate your audience by putting puny little fonts that cannot be read.
Always remember: Your presentation is for and about the audience. When you keep this in mind, you will design slides that are audience-oriented. 30 million PowerPoint slides will be created by the time you leave the office today.
